Distrito Sants-Montjuïc

Hola readers,

This month we set out to explore another area in Barcelona, distrito Sants-Montjuïc. This district–the largest district of Barcelona, making up about one fifth of its territory–is an extremely diverse location in the city. The birthplace of this city, Sants-Montjuïc is made up of many smaller neighborhoods, each with their own distinct personality.

Before hiking through the main features and history of this lovely district, we want to remind you why we do this. At helpBarcelona we strive to provide all of the services you may require when moving to a new city. This recurring column of our blog is intended to help you decide where you want to live by describing all of the neighbourhoods within Barcelona.

If you are looking to move to Barcelona, we recommend first planning out your budget, then deciding on a neighbourhood in the city. When choosing a neighbourhood, don’t forget to take location and services provided into consideration. Also, you should think about looking for your accommodation in a shared flat. These offer many benefits such as lowering your cost of living so you have more money for food or travel! Living in a shared flat will also help you learn the language and make friends, so you won’t be alone in the new city. A room in a shared flat is perfect for students and young workers who want to make the most of their time in Barcelona.

Now that we’re ready, let’s take a look at distrito Sants-Montjuïc. Beginning on Montjuïc hill and rolling down to the coast, this is the largest and the most southern district of the city. This hill is a prominent landmark in the city and offers a fantastic view overlooking Barcelona and its coast. Overtime, Sants-Montjuïc has become a place full of entertainment and joy.

First, we’re going to talk about a few of the museums in this district, then we’ll talk about what you can do in your free time, and finally we’ll discuss the services offered here.

Museums

The first thing everyone has to see in Sants-Montjuïc is Castell de Montjuïc, an impressive fortress on the hill that now holds a military museum and offers a fantastic vantage point of the city. After taking in the magnitude of the castle, you can head to the Fundació Joan Miró, a nearby modern art museum. There are countless more museums on the northern side of this district, from art exhibits to archeological explorations.

Free Time

If you somehow manage to view all of the museums to be found in Sants-Montjuíc, don’t worry, there is still plenty for you to do. If you haven’t yet, take a cable car ride up Montjuic to find a panoramic view of the city and hill. For those of us who are afraid of heights and need something else to do, a trip to one of the many gardens in the area is perfect for a relaxing time in an enchanting setting. Finally, if you’re interested in sports, you can’t miss out on the complexes in the area from the 1992 Olympics.

Services

The more residential side of this district, the northern side, has very easy access to a number of banks and ATMs. The metro is also very easy to stumble across here, with many stops on the northern side and access to the southern side. If you’re looking for a market, you’ll have no trouble finding one anywhere in the district; supermarkets are at nearly every corner on the northern side. This district is well-connected and has quick access to all of the services you could need.

We hope you’ve enjoyed this quick tour through the distrito Sants-Montjuïc. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to leave a comment for us here. Don’t forgot to check out the available shared flats in the city! If you’re planning your stay abroad, check out the rest of the information we’ve made available to you.
