Christmas treats

Christmas treats, because everything is allowed in December! As Christmas is coming, we will entertain you with new columns and the first one, as it should be, is dedicated entirely to the traditional Christmas sweets that you can taste in Barcelona. Before we must say something important though… We have been waiting since one year and finally we can say it again: it is Christmas time! We can go on, now.

Whether you taste them in a cosy café or in your home with your flatmates, Christmas treats are some of the best to spend a nice afternoon or evening with friends. Even better if you have a nice bakery just around the corner to buy some of the Christmassy treats that we are going to suggest you. Actually, this should become one of your parameters when you look for a shared flat. As we like to suggest quite often, the location of your new home away from home is of paramount importance: you will notice it during Christmas!

Maybe it is better to cut the chase and go back to the topic of this blog post, otherwise we will spend the whole day on the computer. As you may have guessed, today’s hot topic is… sound of bells… the best sweet treats that you will ever taste in Barcelona in December! Before starting this sweet journey with us, remember that a healthy diet and physical activity are the key for a healthier lifestyle. Therefore, physical activity has to be on your New Years’ resolutions list.

Since it is 2018 and Christmas is coming, we are allowed to taste all the sweets we wish and helpBarcelona has investigated and created for you a sweet list of tasty suggestions… Yeah, well, we are just amazed ahahahah. Should we begin?

Nougat

The very first treat of our list is the traditional Turrón, nougat in English. It must be on your Christmas table! There is a little something for everyone in here: with white chocolate, with gin, with almonds or nuts, with caramel or salty, hard or soft, etc. We have tasted many of them and they are all delicious and, as December is short, we suggest you to hurry up and taste them all!

WHERE? Brunells

Polvorones

The name is, let’s say, peculiar, but the taste is, let’s say, terrific! These treats are cookies and they get their name from the world “polvo”. Why? Well, these cookies tend to crumble into powder. You may have noticed them everywhere, at least if you live in Spain: they are those fancy sweets wrapped in colourful wax paper. This is brilliant to help you avoid eating thousands of them!

WHERE? La Campana

Neules

A moment of silence for these amazing wafers. They are just too tasty not to eat them all… The Neules are crunchy wafer that are traditionally dipped in cava and the story says that a nun invented them while she was preparing the communion wafers. Well, we do not need to convince you, these crunchy delicacies will take over you at the first bite.

WHERE? Casa Graupera

Tortell de Reis

We saved this one for last, the king of the Christmas holidays traditional sweets, the Tortell de Reis. This treat is eaten during the Kings’ Day, the 6th January, but you can find it all over Barcelona even before Christmas. There are several versions of this cake and our favourite one is the one filled with cream… You are responsible for tasting it!

WHERE? Pasteleria Escriba

In January, you must send us your weight. It is the right way to judge whether you have appreciated our sweet suggestions or not. Kidding aside, we really hope that these treats will be part of the movie nights with your flatmates, at least in December. To be honest, we eat them all during the entire year, but… Well, we are hopeless.

One thing we have learned during our several years of experience as sweet eaters: they taste better if you share them with someone. What better way to have someone to share them with, than by living in a shared flat!  This is definitely a new very good reason to share your apartment and, as every single time we have the chance to do it, we suggest you to take into account this housing solution. If you decide to move to Barcelona, do not hesitate to contact helpBarcelona, we will help you sharing your sweets ahahahah. By the way, keep in mind that we will always guide you through the hard choice of your accommodation by providing you with several renovated shared flats located right in the city centre.

We are sorry, guys. We really want to enjoy our break with some Neules… See you soon with another Christmassy blog post!
